Jene Licausi: I'm sorry to hear about your brother. No, there's no 'alternative medicine' for lymphoma. The danger of asking your question in this section is that you are certain to receive answers from people with no experience or knowledge of cancer, all assuring you that their pet cancer 'cure' is a dead cert. A little gentle questioning will confirm that such people have never successfully treated a cancer of their own with their suggested alternative, nor do they know anyone who has. I can 100% guarantee that. You may also have answers from people urging that your brother refuse any conventional treatment and go with an unproven, ineffective and possibly dangerous alternative.I know how you feel and I understand your desperation. When I was diagnosed with cancer, I was desperate to avoid harsh treatments if possible, and I spent day and night frantically researching alternative treatments. The result of all my research was that I had to reluctantly and painfully conclud! e that no 'alternative cancer treatment' had ever been successful in treating a single case of cancer, ever.If your brother does decide to try any alternative alongside chemotherapy, he should run it by his oncologist first, as some things can be contraindicated with chemo. Don't assume s/he will automatically say no - when I started chemo I was taking a shedload of vitamins and supplements because I had been trying to follow an 'alternative' regime that required them. My oncologst read the list, and said it was fine to continue taking them if I wanted to.And if your brother or any of your family are interested in any particular 'alterntive treatment', do a search on this site for facts about it before investing money, hope and (most dangerous of all for a cancer patient) time in ineffective and possibly harmful 'cures':http://www.quackwatch.org/My best wishes to your brother for his treatment and recovery. Bear in mind that conventional treatment of Hodgkin's lymphoma is! usually very successful and many people are cured.EDIT** Th! enose knows has wheeled out the '80% of MDs' lie again, despite having been put straight on this several times. It is a distortion of the results of a very small survey, a distortion is often repeated by people too lazy to check the facts or too gullible to question what they're told. Here's where that so-called statistic originates:In 1986 a questionnaire was sent to 118 doctors who treated non-small-cell lung cancer, many of whom were involved in trials at McGill University of chemotherapy drugs for lung cancer. They were asked to imagine that they themselves had cancer, and were asked which of the six current trials they themselves would choose. 79 responded, 64 of whom (approx 80%) said they would not consent to be in a trial containing Cisplatin, one of the drugs being trialled and a common chemotherapy drug. An interesting result, but a far cry from ''80% of physicians would refuse chemotherapy '' . Read the facts about this questionnaire, and a follow-up questionnai! re a year later, here:http://anaximperator.wordpress.com/2010/05/06/do-7...Note that most homeopaths wouldn't dream of claiming that homeopathy can cure cancer; only an unscrupulous and greedy few, to whom money is more important than lives, make this claim....Show more
Basil Blasingame: Sorry to hear about your brother. And it is perfectly understandable, that you want to try every possibility for a cure. One thing you should hold on to is, that with conventional treatment, the 5 year survival rate in young people is about 90 %. So the odds really are good , that he will be cured. On the internet there are many claims of miraculous "natural" cancer cures. Here some of them are listed, with links to sites explaining what is wrong with them: http://anaximperator.wordpress.com/2011/02/25/supp...And sometimes conventional treatment really is better than alternative treatment in terms of quality of life: http://www.nejm.org/doi/full/10.1056/NEJM199104253...It is often cla! imed that the establishment don't want a cure for financial reasons. Th! e truth is, that there are lots of reasons why the establishment really want to find a cure. Here are some of them:1) Owners/employees (And their love ones) of pharmaceutical companies suffer from cancer too.2) Researchers wouldn't be able to keep their mouth shut if they found a miraculous cure or even a major breakthrough.3) Progress in cancer treatment is happening even though not as fast as we all would like to. Some cancers are even easily cured.4) Pharmaceutical companies wouldn't lose money for finding a cure - They would increase their income considerably.5) Also members of governments (and their love ones) sometimes get cancer. Here is a a good source of information on Hodgkin's lymphoma: http://www.cancerhelp.org.uk/type/hodgkins-lymphom......Show more
Luana Carothers: You can see a professional Homeopath. They can advise you of what options are available for cure/treatment that may also involve the incorporation of conventional methods depending on the overa! ll symptomatology. It's always your choice. http://www.google.ca/search?sourceid=navclient&aq=...The above has an excellent reputation for successful results (despite being bullied and dumb edited on a recent news show).Keep in mind that chemotherapy and radiation treatments carry no guarantees but they're all that conventional medicine offers. Compared to statistics from non-conventional medical practitioners I wouldn't even think of using chemo. or radiation and neither would 80% of MD's for themselves or their families according to recent surveys!...Show more
Debora Rinderer: No. There is no such thing as alternative "medicine"; if it works it isn't alternative, if it doesn't, it isn't medicine.I'm sorry to hear about your brother, but Alt.med only gives false hope.
Hipolito Rightmire: Hodgekin's lymphoma has a 90% 10 year survival rate with treatment. It is one of a small group of cancers that chemotherapy alone can offer a cure. Those are excellent odds whe! n it comes to cancer. This must be a devastating blow to your family bu! t it is not a death sentence.Feel free to offer your brother any alternative treatment you like, as long as he gets the chemo as well.
