Differences between laundry detergent power and liquid?

Lucrecia Laurito: Actually, sodium lauryl sulfate(SLS) is pretty controversial and acts as a foaming agent. It is found in antifreeze as well has many health and beauty products. Not to scare anybody, but if you can avoid it, it would be better for your health and the environment, too.I choose neither liquid or powder, but instead use soap nuts. They are actually berries that grow on sustainable trees in Asia. They are the purest and most natural way of washing your laundry and being in college I am sure space is an issue. Well, beyond the "nuts" themselves, you only have the small bag that they come in to worry about. I have blogged about them because I love them so much and have more information at my website, too. Good luck!Cathyhttp://www.letsbegreentogether.blogspot.comhttp://www.letsbegreentogether.com...Show more

Hilma Pestano: I prefer liquid laundry detergent. Powder detergent doesn't always dissolve well and leaves white spots on your dark clothes. It also can leave a residue in the washer that can redeposit on your clothes during the rinse cycle. It is also easier to pretreat your stains with liquid laundry detergent.

Janeen Perona: If the water is hard your powder may not completely dissolve. If you use powder you need to add it to the water and let the washer fill before adding clothes. Liquids are good at removing oil and grease stains, while powders remove soil and clay better(at least that is what I've heard)The January 2007 issue of Consumer Reports magazine rated a total of 39 laundry detergents (10 HE, 22 conventional,! and 7 with fabric softeners). There is quite a large range between the top rated ones and the bottom rated ones. The magazine says, "Our tests have shown that there's little performance difference between powders and liquids; it's simply a matter of personal preference." ...Show more
