how much to replace a heater core?

Leisa Brodnex: autoMD is wrong. It was fairly easy for 2000 Blazers, but starting in 2001, it turned into a monster job, requiring ripping the whole dash apart.

Keven Drumgole: I looked the labour up on Mitchell1 which is the industry accepted labour time for auto repair. It calls for 8.5 hours. At my shop ($66 per hour) that would be $561 for the labour the part (about $80) antifreeze miscellaneous supplies tax. That would work out to around $750 bottom line. It is quite possible that it is not the heater core, although flushing it out with a garden hose would be a good place to start and is good maintenance. There are other things that can cause your heater not to work, though. The first thing to check is to make sure that your antifreeze level is okay in the rad itself....Show more

Joan Stavropoulos: It may be worth using a flushing chemical to unclog the heater matrix. You add it to clean water in the car drive for a few days then flush it o! ut. If the heater works after that you can fill up with antifreeze mix.

Damaris Weiler: In most cases it's the old DexCool antifreeze that clogs up the heater core. Just remove both heater hoses that run to the heater core at the firewall after clamping them off and use the garden hose to flush the heater core in both directions.I'd take the bottom radiator hose off of the radiator and drain the complete system and then put a green antifreeze back in.

Noah Deni: Google a YouTube on it to see for yourself how much work it takes. If they need to remove the dash, that probably pushes the price up around $1000.
