I want to start buying and remodeling houses, what do I need to know?

Hilde Heskett: Could you apprectice for a while and work for a builder? I would go to every single house for sale, especially not-new ones, and study the changes made, the effect, and cost of the project. Go to the library or the Home-Deport type stores to study remodelling books. Some improvements increase the value and the sale-ability, while others net a loss. Remember that the owners may like some input into their new home. Make the place structually sound; perhaps let them choose colors inside and out. Getting permits and observing codes vary from place to place; get specs from your locale. A builder I know about actually lives in a small part of the home while re-doing it. He has upgraded all five houses he's worked on and resold. Once he sold the house with the furniture and had to rent/store things till he could find his next project. This would probably work best without children who'd have to transfer to other schools, etc....but it worked for him..! ..Show more
