Is public school "indoctrination" or is home school for whackos?

Nancy Mansell: I think there can be good reasons for homeschooling, other than religion.Socialization? I don't know. Kids do need some of that. But OTOH, some schools just make kids act worse. If I had kids, it would really depend on what the local public schools were like. I can't give a "one size fits all" answer to your question: I think homeschooling can be good, bad or indifferent, depending on the circumstances....Show more

Nestor Klan: Actually, I do know a couple that home schooled and are not religious. Having taught in a public school, when compared to what I was taught in public school some time ago (let's just leave it at that), I find much of today's 'instruction' to be indoctrination to leftist causes/beliefs. I am sure that varies wildly from school to school so I'm not going to throw out any unsubtantiated stats, but the simple fact is that more and more public school children are being taught WHAT to think and not HOW to think. That endangers! our society more than a few ultra-religious people home schooling their kids with the classical Greek methods....Show more

Tyree Allenbrand: Yes, the public school "indoctrinates" kids into thinking that 1+1=2.

Corrina Faro: Yeah Public schools in America suck. Like Christmas time. Every kid don't have a family with the same belief

Antonia Mogg: You forget that throughout the history of mankind, education BEGINS at home. I believe with todays diffusion nowledge and technology and given the level of education in parents, home-schooling has never been more effective. Public schools unfortunately have become liberal training grounds pushing such things as homosexuality, atheistic philosophy, and multi-culturalism in order to satisfy the ambition of self-destructive liberals.

Gennie Shauer: There is an epidemic of homeschooling amongst fundies. Unfortunately, fundies aren't too well educated, so you have the uneducated "educating" the uneducated. ! My Fundie neighbor is homeschooling his kids. He can't read! script; neither can his kids. He thinks women shouldn't be allowed to vote: so do his kids.

Hollis Demasters: My personal view is that home schooling may make kids smarter but they will never develope socially. As much as I hated school, it gave me skills on how to deal with difficult people and home schooled kids are missing out on that.

Renita Sefton: I know of many kids who are home schooled. Its not because of religion its because the education system in the US has been on a decline for years and getting worse. Teachers and parents not caring is one major reason. Kids who are home schooled are normally much smarter. The socialization part the kids get with friends and relatives. On my sons baseball team we have a few kids who are home schooled. So its not like they are ostracized by people just school. And to tell you the truth Im seriously considering home school for my children. My one child is in the GATE program for gifted children and all I he! ar is how bored he is in school. The other has shown strong signs of being the same he is the top 2 of his class. So I dont think that a regular school will stimulate them enough. And not only that but you can have better discipline at home than at school. And saying this is not a joke. But if you home school you dont have to worry about any shootings happening. Its sad but it can happen anywhere. Peace out....................Show more

Woodrow Neyman: Home school is for whackos. I do know someone who lives on a ranch and home schools because her kids would be riding a bus more than 2 1/2 hours a day to get to the nearest school.

Phillip Modafferi: Nonsense. Home school is for those who see public school for the ridiculous, inefficient, ineffective joke that it is, where kids learn what the state thinks they should, whether the parents like it or not.Vouchers anyone?

Pam Rampadarat: I'm home schooling with out religious motivation. I don't want my ! kids on the school bus 3 hours a day and that is my other option. I bel! ong to a home school co-op so we have other peoples kids learning with our kids too. The public school in my area is more Christian than the parochial school I went to as a child, anyway.I feel bad for the kids who are home schooled by their zealot parents though, it must be awful, I wish I could reach out to them.I am raising my kids to be free-thinking leaders, not automatons for the government or religion....Show more

Rufus Plough: Nope, not I. I already graduated high school in 2002.

Patrick Bitsui: Home-schooling is definitely not "for whackos." The main difference I've noticed about many (not all) home-schooled people is that they're more polite, avoid the whole "party" crowd, and are often more content in general. People of all sorts of beliefs use home-school to their advantage. It allows a higher set of academic standards, more individuality, and a far more flexible schedule. If you research the topic, you'll find that many influential figures from th! e past were educated in this very way....Show more

Curt Broadhead: I know of several non-religious parents who opted for home schooling. They were fed up with the public schools and felt their children weren't learning material at a fast enough rate, and would not be truly prepared for college by remaining in public school. Also, some of the home schooling parents wanted to try different approaches toward education (Montessori, Walden and other methods). My parents sent me off to a private boarding school for similar reasons. They wanted me to be truly competitive and competent when it was time to apply to colleges....Show more

Alexandria Popik: I didn't home school, I'm not that smart! I did move to a rural area, with a small school and wonderfully kind and witty teachers.

Chet Nozick: I took my kids OUT of PUBLIC school because that is where the "whackos" were. The "public" school they attended- had a "teacher" who handed my son a razor blade- to clean ! up some gum off the floor- They are handing out razor blades to kids i! n school? It was not just my son, the next day- she gave another blade to another student. Public school is not really indoctrination- just unsafe

Maynard Reevers: yes, some people are home-schooled w/o religious motivations. I know of some. There are plenty of reasons to home school someone other than weird conspiracy theories of brainwashing.

Anibal Scheid: My friend has home schooled all three of his children on political grounds. The public fool system is brainwashing children to obey governmental authority without thinking. The public fool system is an organ of the socialist agenda which conditions the next generation to have no respect for parents or the concept of right and wrong, etc. It is an attack on human freedom and if this U.S. of A. falls to it then there will be nothing stopping the globalists from lobotomizing nearly everyone and farming their organs.Prozac anyone? What have we allowed them to do?...Show more

Mercedez Trabue: I grad! uated from a public college. i think of public colleges are extra acceptable b/c they're extra decrease priced, extra people, and the government money them, meaning extra campus events. homestead training is okay, yet you do not get the whole adventure of faculty that way. i think of you may desire to be around different persons.
