Financial aid with online college?

Donny Bankson: Online colleges are almost exclusively for profit schools. That means that tuition is 2-4 times that of public universities. Even if you receive financial aid, it is unlikely that you receive any where near enough aid to cover tuition and fees. Additionally, online colleges are having accreditation issues. The federal government is increasingly revoking accreditation and aid, because of the underhanded practices for recruiting, and the low placement rates these colleges have with their graduates. Since you are worried about living far away from your baby, try enrolling at a community college. They are usually within an hour's commute from home, so you could live at home and just drive to class. They also offer a number of online courses, and a variety of evening and weekend courses. Tuition is low at CC's, and your financial aid should more than cover your classes. Additionally, you should have no problem transferring your credits to a university ! when your baby is older.
