Cordia Fivecoat: Leading 3D Animation Software : http://3dAnimationCartoons.com/?ferM
Kate Baune: Flash or blender. Blender is free
Riley Migl: Flash or if you're cheapStart out with MS Paint and Windows Movie Maker
Mark Villifana: For 2D animations there are various affordable and easy-to-use software packages, such as CrazyTalk Animator, Anime Studio, and the cheaper versions of Toon Boom. There's other 2D animation software, but generally it's aimed at pro animators who've spent decades in the business, not beginners. For 3D animations, these are the free packages for beginners that I can recommend: Muvizu (free, easy to use, powerful), iClone (free EX version with limited video output options, but it does takes a while to learn), and possibly DAZ Studio (free, huge range of quality content, but better for still pictures than for animation)....Show more
